Vacation Update

Been meaning to post but have been too lazy to upload pictures...but if I wait any longer I might fail to remember the past week. So sad, so true.

Last Friday I flew to Orlando for work, but took a sidetrip a few hundred miles north to see Joe. FLETC wasn't so bad, but it's like dating your husband who is at college. A college where you need an to register as a guest, must pass through a checkpoint with armed guards and where you have to leave by midnight for security reasons. Weird. Joe has a snazzy single with housekeeping services and we went to a FLETC-sponsored keg party that served Pabst Blue Ribbon. Your tax dollars hard at work!

Joe had class all day Saturday, so I dropped him off (he could stay with me, I just couldn't stay with him - it's not bootcamp or anything) and went shopping. Alone. It was glorious! Then me and my SPF50 headed to a beach on St. Simons Island, about 20 minutes from FLETC. I had a book, I got wrapped up, I got fried. We're talking glowing red. It hurt and it's still itchy. And blotchy. Beautiful.
That night we went to the campus-wide party and then to a mexican BBQ his class (about 45 people) was having. Good food, and the people in his group are nice.

Sunday - Joe's one day off each week - we went to Jekyll Island - and drove around, had lunch then walked on the beach. You have to take a huge bridge to get there...and one of my irrational fears is big suspension bridges. Here it is.

From there, I drove Joe back and me and my HHR...oh, I have to post this beauty:

...headed to the Swan & Dolphin at WDW, searching for a Dunkin Donuts along the way. No dice. From there I spent most of the next 48 hours trying to stay awake in technical conference sessions, decipher engineering talk and meet with people from my company and others...none of which seemed to happen. Ok, so I might have also squeezed in dinner at ESPNZone, a few drinks at the cabana bar, a walk around the Boardwalk that resulted in a pit stop to watch Aladdin on the beach and some karaoke with my coworkers. Most in the name of networking. Really, I would have rather been home. I'm serious, and that is probably quite pathetic.

My room was near the top of the triangle in this picture.

Oh, I did also eat at Il Mulino at the Swan & Dolphin - it was really good, if anyone is looking for a dining recommendation in that neck of the woods.

I went home on Tuesday night, worked on Wednesday, then took Thursday & Friday off to hang out with the boys. My mom and I took them to the Museum of Science on Thursday. Friday I took them to the little children's museum near us, The Met, and we went and fed the ducks at Macks. The geese were out, and those suckers are MEAN! A reporter from the Union Leader came to talk to the boys for a story he was writing, and they all kept their traps shut so no fame for them! Today was t-ball in 44-freaking-degree weather (hello, May 3?) and a quick trip to the playground, but Seamus was frozen and we had to leave. We tried the library next and then just headed home to do precious little. Which is also our plan tomorrow.
