Naked is funny

There are two really nice moms who have agreed to help us 2 days a week by driving Colin from kindergarten to the after school program - same school, buildings about 1/2 mile apart. One of them is the mom of Colin's longtime (2 years) love, Ellie. Yesterday, I get an email from Ellie's mom (Stacey) not long after the drop would have been made, entitled "today's car ride." I panicked - what had Colin done to wear out his welcome?

Colin has been insisting for a while that Ellie is his wife. It's been cute. He's gone so far as describing their wedding. He let us know we're invited to the big day and Ellie will wear a purple dress and we don't need to bring presents, just flowers for Ellie. Sweet, eh?

Well, he's been telling Ellie for a while she's his wife and I noticed a few months ago Ellie wasn't digging that too much, so I told Colin he can't make someone his wife, he needs to get her to like him first and they must agree to get married. Yeah, like most stuff around here, that went in one ear and out the next.

Stacey let me know when the teacher brought Ellie and Colin into the car she told Stacey how "in love" Colin is with Ellie. She remarked that Colin even gets upset when he sees Ellie playing with another boy. So they leave to bring Colin to the other school and Colin wastes no time asking Ellie if she was ever going to marry him. We should all be proud of this little girl, as she looked right at him and said "marry yourself." Good girl!

But like a typical 5 year old, the tide changed quickly and the two of them started singing "here comes the bride." Ellie started making kissing noises and they were laughing. At least until Colin sings "here comes the bride all naked and white". Yeeeaaah. Awesome. I hung my head as my face burned reading this part of the email.

I asked Colin later how the ride was and he told me most of this story without me letting on I knew. He even told me about the naked part and when I asked him why he just said, "because naked is funny."

Well, ok then.
